Spectacle in the middle of the Atlantic
A unique paradise in the ocean: that’s a short and apt description of the Azores. Rising from the deep blue Portuguese Atlantic, these volcanic islands offer intense contrasts for the senses with their spectacular crater lakes, impressively green vegetation, and crystal-clear air.
The main island of São Miguel offers numerous launch sites and unforgettable impressions remain when one can view the scenery from the air; whether over the spectacular crater lakes, high above the island with a view of the steep coasts or soaring along the flower-rich slope edges.
Nevertheless, we are on a relatively small island and at the mercy of the weather conditions, with little room to maneuver. Naturally, the focus of the trip is on flying, but we also recommend this trip if you are interested in the Azores as islands and would like to explore the area in other ways on days when flying isn’t possible.
The diverse natural attractions, thermal springs, and hiking trails along the cliffs and around the crater lakes offer a spectacular alternative. We usually plan our days so that we’re prepared for anything, setting off with paragliders, hiking boots, swimsuits, and bikinis, letting ourselves be surprised by what the weather allows.
With the hotel we stay in the capital Ponta Delgada – nothing is really far from there and we have numerous good restaurants to choose from in the evenings.
