Diverse Northern Brazil
Over Christmas and New Year’s, we’ll be visiting the best flying sites in northern Brazil. A diverse mix awaits us: coastal soaring amidst the vibrant Brazilian beach life, cross-country flying over imposing granite monoliths and in the lowlands under perfect cumulus clouds, and soul flying along tropically lush, forested cliffs.
We start the tour in Natal and warm up with some relaxed beach soaring in the beach town of Pipa. Afterwards, we head inland. We launch from the winch for thermals and extended cross-country flights in the northern Brazilian skies. We visit the legendary cross-country flying areas of Caicó and Patu, where numerous world records have been set in October and November. However, conditions are significantly calmer in December and January: more humid air and less wind. Perfect for “average” pilots.
We’ll spend the Christmas holidays in the equally legendary coastal town of Canoa Quebrada. Jean-Baptiste Chandelier himself used the unique backdrop of red cliffs and the unmistakable Brazilian reggae vibe for his film “Weightless.” Afterwards, we’ll head to Quixadá. No less steeped in history than Caicó and Patu, but above all, it’s the hometown of our two Brazilian team members, Wagner and Galego. Launches here will take place either from imposing granite monoliths or from the winch.
We’ll travel by paraglider or car to our final destination, Tianguá, situated on the edge of a lush, forested plateau. Here we’ll celebrate New Year’s and spend the last few days enjoying relaxed thermodynamic soaring and breathtaking views.
This tour is aimed at independent pilots who appreciate a wide range of flying conditions. Ambitious cross-country pilots as well as recreational pilots with solid technical skills will find it very rewarding. Prior winch launching experience is not required.
